Are you an artist or producer of exhibitions? Then you are also a communicator. It might be a strong statement, but the fact is that art needs to be conveyed to reach the desired audience.

Our dream is that art will create groundbreaking headlines in the media and that our Instagram accounts will abound with dedicated followers. Can you think of three things at once: Art, social media (SoMe) and the press?

This course is about how you as an artist or small exhibition space can easily and effectively build and use a SoME profile to show art and market what you are passionate about. We will look at what it takes to make the press interested in your art.

Without communicating your art, no one has any idea what’s going on in your studio or gallery. What can you do about it?

This is what you will learn:

  • Mechanisms for effective communication and marketing in social meda channels, with the main emphasis on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Dialogue: The inherent nature and power of the SoMe channels.
  • How to use and build a good SoMe profile.
  • How to work to get media attention about art.

Course leader

Communicator, historian, author and podcaster Unni Irmelin Kvam has for many years worked with communication for various cultural institutions such as KODE, the University of Oslo, the Natural History Museum and the Vigeland Museum in Oslo. In 2021, the Vigeland Museum’s Instagram account was named “One to Watch” by the New York Times. She shares her best tricks for creating a SoMe profile, how to enter into a dialogue with followers and create a tone that makes you still get attention about what is most important in the world: art.

Øyvind Rongevær Kvarme is an educated art historian and educator. Currently working with dissemination and communication at Trondheim Art Museum, as well as leading various projects and curating exhibitions. Formerly, he has worked freelance as a writer and critic, and been involved in the Heimdal Kunstforening. Kvarme sits on the board of the Norwegian Art Associations and is a member of the Norwegian Curators’ Association. On this course he will share Trondheim Kunstmuseums strategy on social media, and talk about how they work to reach their audience and how they collaborate with exhibiting artists.



The course is a collaboration between VISP and Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder and is supported by Trondheim municipality.

NB: If a studio becomes vacant at LKV as a consequence of the allocation of studio 306, this will be offered to the second candidate for studio 306. Exception for studios reserved for newly graduates.

Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) is a Foundation that runs a production space for professional visual artists, an interdisciplinary artist-in-residence program and the exhibition space BABEL visningsrom for kunst. Here you’ll find 42 studios, in addition to two project rooms and workshops for printmaking, metal, wood, analogue photography and a ceramic oven. The workshops and project rooms at LKV are available for all professional artists in Trondheim.

Tempe studio – 39 m2 floor area – 0,-/ month

Artisans and visual artists are invited to apply for a studio place at Tempe Health and Welfare Center. The center is connected to nursing homes and care homes, but also serves as a gathering place and cultural center for the district.

The studio is built for the purpose, with mezzanine and otherwise great height under the roof. The floor area is 39 m2. It is good daylight from the north. The center has a party hall that can be used for collaborative projects, meeting places or for exhibitions.

The studio will be announced from 1 February 2022 for a period of two years. The artist does not pay rent, but is committed to making his work available to the residents of the Tempe Health and Welfare Center. This can happen through different types of collaboration and involvement, such as open studios, exhibitions, conversations or other types of collaborative projects. Collaboration with the Culture Unit, Senior Culture is also an opportunity.

Artists who work on projects that are well suited for collaboration with, or dissemination to, the health and welfare center will be given priority.

– justification for why the artist wants a stay in the studio
– justification of how the stay is intended to be used for artistic production
– thoughts about how cooperation with or dissemination to the health and welfare center and its residents can take place.

Accounting course – good routines for artists

How should you organise your accounts throughout the year? What are the accounting rules really like when you have received a scholarship? Are you exempt from all VAT reporting as an artist?

On November 23rd, VISP and Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder will hold an accounting course that deals with the right to deduct, tax, scholarship and VAT rules, as well as good accounting routines for artists. The course is suitable for both unestablished and more experienced, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
