About you work
Discipline: Visual artist
Technique: Installations
Statement: While at LKV, I will continue my research about light. As always the larger oeuvre of my art finds its gravity in the intersections of visual pleasure, beauty, consumer culture, Zen Buddhism, Christianity, poetry, ephemera, domesticity, etc. I take what others manufacture such as marbles, nightlights, or hologram stickers and reconsider them through the filters stated above. It is also through an object's interaction with light in which I try to tease out other meanings. It is as if light were capable of releasing a kind of secret from the ordinary. Sometimes the transformation of materials comes via quantity, while at other times it is manifest through the placement or pattern of materials on a wall, floor or ceiling. In each case, light is a tool to re-examine the inherent qualities of the selected materials for new insight.
Plans for your residency? I will examine May’s light and its affects on my materials with the goal of accessing a deeper connection to light’s fullness and subtly. |
