[3.3.09 - 31.3.09] Gavin Peacock - UK
"In exhibtions and catalogues I am always enthralled by archive photographs of artists at work, their studios, exhibition installations, models, etc. Sometimes I prefer the documentation of work to the work itself".

Gavin Peacock fra Uk

Name: Gavin Peacock

Nationality: British

Homeland: UK

Town: Brighton

Age: 38

How long are you resident? From 3rd until 31st March ?

Have you been in Trondheim before? No, first time in Norway

Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim? Hopefully I'll meet some people whilst out and about. Usually when you are somewhere with a tripod with a video camera someone will ask 'what are you doing?'

Is it something you look forward to…? Making videos and reading without the usual distractions.

About you work

Discipline: Mainly video these days, but in the past painting, sculpture and installation

Technique: Digital video including time-lapse, 3D video, multi-channel

Statement: The manner with which artwork is documented has fascinated me for a long time. In exhibtions and catalogues I am always enthralled by archive photographs of artists at work, their studios, exhibition installations, models, etc. Sometimes I prefer the documentation of work to the work itself. My early works were often in series and modular in form, and as I started to explore the latency in the modular forms and production processes the work became more ephemeral and transitory in nature. Therefore I started to use video to document the process of making work, capturing differing narratives and histories of the work. Through this ongoing process I have become increasingly interested in the notion of documentation as art work in itself, not just the simple recording of an object or event. I am currently interested in the discovery and exploration of a place through the process of making work in that place.

Plans for your residency? Walk about a lot and point a camera at stuff, most likely water, sky and hills, but maybe other things too.
