About you work
Discipline: Illustrator
Technique: Drawing is always the starting point, the materials change from time to time, but for now I work a lot with charcoal and pencil.
Statement:
My work reflects mostly my view on things in my surroundings. So in a way it's very autobiographical. The drawings I am working on here are really fragmented. All the new impulses and surroundings I see here are put in there but yet without a locigal structure or sequence. It is a representation of my first days/weeks here. It takes a while before you understand a city or feel at home. Because of the huge contrast between the darkness of the days and the light of the snow it felt really natural to work just in black and white, to underline that contrast.
Plans for your residency?
First of all I wanted to work big, no boundaries. Furthermore I'd love to not think too much about my plans. I don't know what kind of influence the city and the life here will have on me so I want to just follow those feelings and I will see where I will end up, that strategy always works out the best for me. I'd love to make a booklet though when I'm done here, just as a memory for me, to close this chapter and to have something tangible as a reminder.
