Julia Wandel - Germany
" I often start my work with loose personal associations. I collect images that attract me for different, undefined reasons. The starting point can be either visual or acoustical“.

Julia Wandel from Germany
Name: Julia Wandel
Nationality: german
Homeland: Germany
Town: Hamburg
Age: 37
How long are you resident? From 9th of Feb. until end of Feb.
Have you been in Trondheim before? Some nights ago I had a dream about Trondheim. Its images were so concrete that I woke up with the feeling that I had been there already but the images turned out to be very different from what I experience now, of course.
Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim? An old woman grabbed my arm to get her through the snow today. Little things like that, everyday life.
Is it something you look forward to…? I am looking forward to see the sea, I have a slight hope to film the polar light if I manage to make a trip to the north, and I will enjoy looking through the window in my studio (observing the new environment) while developing some ideas that hopefully lead to production (either here or back in Germany).
About your work
Discipline: muti media
Technique: video, film, installation
Statement: I often start my work with loose personal associations. I collect images that attract me for different, undefined reasons. The starting point can be either visual or acoustical. Later, this subconcious process turns into a more deliberate way of working and I begin to reappraise what I had in mind and connect the former associations with a supporting picture / object / sound. The actors of my videos can be seen as placeholders for mental states, memories or emotions; they don't have any individual characteristics.
Plans for your residency? To have an efficient time.
