Statement:
Places that I stalk become a visual playground, from which it is possible to steal anything. In a new environment, I will allow the drawing process to lead, often taking me off a predictable path. The pay-off for exercising such a loose policy on subject matter is the anxiety that subjects will not always succumb to codification. This is a risk associated with stalking any virgin ground. However, every artist must proceed towards something that is complete and autonomous.

This is an opportunity to draw in a new environment, and deal with an entirely new set of formal problems. I just had an exhibition that was the culmination of time spent in an East coast of Scotland static caravan park, exploring the landscape around it. I didn´t imagine that I would end up there. At LKV, my original intention was to draw outside, but I find formal relationships fascinating everywhere. I´m having problems leaving my studio. I started making paintings of the studio space, and then when placing the work on the wall, I have found that relationship interesting, so I painted that as well. It is just evolving, and I am enjoying this time of allowing that process to lead. |
