Antonella Romano
Antonella Romano is an interdisciplinary artist and activist from Italy, with a background in political studies. She combines different artistic techniques, such as painting and drawing, printing techniques, stop-motion animation, and gestural performance. Recently, she has focused on the political and ethical potentiality of gesture in meaning-suspension and its potential of resistance as an ‘untamable’ subject, capable of producing alternative knowledge (as embodied knowledge). During her residency at LVK, she will gather research materials from the archival and cultural institutions in Trondheim, to continue her on-going research project interrogating how -and why- expressive codes like gestures are regarded as a minor subject, ‘inferior’ (if not queer) to verbal language in the European archival-based cultural apparatus.
Antonella Romano holds a BA in Political Science and an MA in Law and Economics from LUISS University (Rome). After studying Pictorial Disciplines at RUFA (Rome University of Fine Arts), she furthered her education in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art (London), attending courses on contemporary art and politics as well as artistic research with a focus on the performing arts at the HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design and the Academy of Music and Drama at Gothenburg University.
