Liisa Kallio

Liisa Kallio is an illustrator, author, and artist based in Helsinki, Finland. She creates picture books, writes lyrics for children’s songs, and performs live drawing with children’s orchestras. She is interested in the dialogue between illustration and music, ecosocial art education, and diverse forms of image-making.

At LKV, Liisa Kallio will explore a range of techniques, sketching, drawing, and painting works for an exhibition and a picture book for adults, Aavistus (“The Hunch”). The book explores nature and humanity’s relationship with it, featuring images that play with nature themes in an absurd and surreal way. As a counterbalance to the light-hearted atmosphere of the images, the text consists of quotes from news reports about nature.

The drawings and paintings produced during the LKV residency will be exhibited at Gallery Lennätin in Helsinki in September 2026, and the book is scheduled for release in 2028, accompanied by an exhibition and a concert.
