Per Formo
Per Formo (b. 1952) works with painting, murals, drawing and digital prints. After completing his education at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art in 1989, he has lived and worked in his hometown, where he has had a studio at Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder since its establishment in 1993.
His painting is linked to an artistic tradition that focuses both on the visual experience of reality and on the unique qualities of painting itself. His images are characterised by geometric forms and often combine precision and clarity with ambiguity and complexity. The joy and wonder of seeing are guiding principles.
Through a working method based on various predefined forms, structures and rules, he explores different types of visual situations that can both make us aware of what we do when we see, and be a place for meditation on the visible and the relationship between sight and perception.
Per Formo has had over 25 solo exhibitions in Trøndelag and the rest of Norway, and he has also carried out public art commissions in Trondheim, Steinkjer, Oslo, Tynset, Bergen, Bryne and Tromsø, among other places. His works have been purchased by the Museum of Contemporary Art/National Museum, Trondheim Art Museum, Rogaland Art Museum, Nord-Trøndelag Art Museum, the Norwegian Cultural Council and Trondheim Municipality, among others.
