Program
Art Critique
Open Call for 2027/2028 opens in January 2026, deadline March 1st 2026.
In 2021, LKV and ArtScene Trondheim initiated a collaboration aimed at highlighting the role of art criticism in Norway through a residency program.
The cultural city of Trondheim has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with new artist collectives, private art galleries, museums, and theatres emerging. We therefore wish to invite critics from outside the city to immerse themselves in the vibrant local art scene. Read about previous guest critics here. Selected critics are offered accommodation and a workspace for up to one month at Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder.
Who can apply?
Critics who write about genres such as visual art, performing arts, music, and dance are welcome to apply. The residency may be used for professional development, writing projects, and gaining deeper insight into the region’s art and cultural scene.
Duration
A one-month residency during the month of March.
What to expect
During their residency, critics are expected to give a presentation about their work in criticism and write a text to be published on artscene.no. The text will be remunerated according to the rates set by the Norwegian Critics’ Association and may take the form of a review of the regional art scene, an interview with a local cultural figure, or an article related to the critic’s area of expertise.
Practical info:
- Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder offers accommodation in a fully equipped guest apartment (one bedroom).
- The critic covers expenses such as food, travel, insurance, etc.
- The critic receives a grant of NOK 15,000 from ArtScene Trondheim.
- The program is aimed at critics residing in the Nordic countries. Trondheim-based critics are not considered.
