Please read the information below carefully before starting your application.

Established in 1996, this long-running program provides professional visual artists and craft artists a flexible framework that allows artists to work on their own terms, supporting artistic development while encouraging exchange and collaboration. Residents become part of an artistic community, with opportunities to build networks with local artists and collaborators.

This open call applies to residencies taking place in 2027 and 2028. The program places no requirements on how the residency should be used, giving artists freedom to define their own working process. Because residents are expected to work autonomously, the residency is particularly suited to those seeking a focused environment and dedicated time for production or research. It combines professional facilities with a high degree of flexibility, allowing artists to develop projects that require time, space, and access to high-quality workshop equipment.

Artists may also apply for an exhibition at BABEL during their residency through this application form.

The open call is intended for professional visual artists and craft artists at all stages of their careers. Artists may apply for a residency of 22 days to 3 months between January 2027 and December 2028. Residencies can be undertaken as one continuous period or split into two separate periods, which may be particularly suitable for artists who need separate time for research and production.

During the residency, the artist in this program will receive:

  • Accommodation and studio: a fully equipped private 25 m² apartment and a 50 m² private studio with excellent natural light, located in separate buildings across the yard. Shared laundry facilities are available for residents.
  • Access to workshops: LKV’s technical workshops for wood, metal, printmaking, analog photography, ceramics, and large-scale production.
  • Public presentation: Artists are encouraged to hold a short, informal presentation of their practice at the beginning of the residency. This facilitates contact between the resident artist and the local artistic community, but is not mandatory.

All other expenses, including travel, living costs, materials, insurance, and transport, are the responsibility of the artist.
